Living in a world of self-delusion
I begin by saying that Ted Utchen is a friend and at the same time one with whom I could not disagree with more when it comes to God. In the June 4 Fence Post, Mr. Utchen tells us how he can improve upon God. He lets us know what type of God he wishes to project from his imagination onto the world as better than the God we now have.
I’d like to know more about Ted’s God of choice. Must his “new and improved” God always bless all people with salvation? Should his God have not allowed Dr. Kevorkian to die? Should Ted’s God have talked Hitler out of committing suicide, if God is always loving, blessing and kind?
It sounds to me like Mr. Utchen is living in a world of his own delusions. No, Ted, you’ve got it wrong once again; Chance and luck help you win at blackjack. When you begin the next thunderstorm in Wheaton, I’ll replace my worship of God by honoring you as the Lord of the Universe.
Until then, I suggest you come to grips with the fact that you think you are God, and that is far scarier than a doctor in Joplin who spoke of God’s role in saving the life of a human being.
