Glenview House to be site for Glenview Swings for WINGS

The Friends of WINGS Safe House will hold its annual fundraising event at the new Glenview House from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 26.

The Open House format will include appetizers, drinks, auctions and music by the band Swingset. Tickets are $50 each and are available through the organization’s website at wingsprogram.com.

“The Friends of WINGS Safe House is an awesome group of volunteers, who have been holding fundraisers to support our shelter since its opening in 2005,” says Terri Channer, senior director of development for WINGS. “This is the first time they have held an evening event, and to have it at the new Glenview House is very exciting. The restaurant is beautiful and will lend a charming atmosphere for the fundraiser.”

WINGS (Women in Need Growing Stronger) has been providing shelter and services to homeless and abused women and children since 1985. The organization has an emergency shelter, shared transitional homes and apartments throughout the Northwest suburbs and last year, served more than 400 people.

The Safe House emergency shelter was opened in January 2005, as a temporary respite for women fleeing abuse. WINGS staff work with the women while they are in shelter to determine the steps they need to take to improve their lives and the lives of their children. Since opening, the shelter has housed more than 1,000 people.
