Woodridge woman rescued from house fire
An elderly Woodridge woman was rescued by her next door neighbor Friday after he heard smoke detectors and smelled smoke coming from her house, authorities said.
The fire on the 9000 block of Charing Cross Road broke out just before noon, said Battalion Chief Tom Mahn of the Darien — Woodridge Fire Protection District.
The woman had called her son-in-law, who lives nearby, to say that something was on fire in the house. When he arrived soon after, the woman was already waiting out front with her neighbor, Mahn said.
“Good thing he was home and heard the smoke detector,” Mahn said.
No injuries were reported.
The fire was contained to the kitchen, but it’s unclear where it started or what caused it, Mahn said.
The house sustained approximately $20,000 in smoke and heat damage.
