Gonnella breaks ground in Schaumburg

Gonnella Frozen Products in Schaumburg has broken ground on a 29,000-square-foot expansion which a Cook County property tax incentive kept in the state and county.

Company officials decided to locate the new freezer and dry storage space at their Schaumburg facility at 1117 E. Wiley Road, rather than at others in Aurora and Pennsylvania, as a result of being awarded the Class 6B incentive last month

The expansion will see the transfer of 37 full-time employees to the Schaumburg plant and the hiring of five more. The incentive for industrial businesses reduces the level of assessment on the property from 25 percent to 10 percent for 10 years, resulting in a reduction of property taxes by about half.

The level of assessment gradually rises during the 11th and 12th years of the incentive before returning to normal. The incentive affects only the addition, not the original building.
