Schaumburg man dies after crash

A minor car accident resulted in a 92-year-old Schaumburg man’s unexpected death Friday night, police and fire officials confirmed.

Harvey Piaskowski was pronounced dead at 5:35 p.m. Friday evening after being taken to Alexian Brothers Hospital to be treated for minor accident injuries, Schaumburg Police Sgt. John Nebl said.

According to Nebl, at 10:13 a.m. Piaskowski’s car struck the back of another car in the back parking lot of a strip mall near the intersection of East Higgins and North Plum Grove roads.

After the cars made contact Piaskowski kept moving, struck a guardrail and went down into an embankment. Despite the accident, Piaskowski seemed fine to police and fire officials on the scene, Nebl said.

“(Piaskowski) was conscious and alert. He was talking to the police officers and paramedics at the time of the accident. He was taken to the hospital for observation and a checkup,” Nebl said.

“His injuries did not appear to be serious.”

The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed that Piaskowski’s death was the result of “multiple injuries” due to the car accident.

Schaumburg Police are still investigating the accident.
