Soccer/Lake roundup

Julie Pecht, Allison Clatch and Marylena Lehockey each scored twice, as Vernon Hills’ girls soccer team wrapped up a berth in the North Suburban Conference championship game with an 8-1 win over Round Lake on Tuesday.

Vernon Hills (9-4-4, 5-0-1) had tied Wauconda 1-1 with a goal in the final 6 minutes last Friday, necessitating a tiebreaker be used in the event of a first-place tie.

Kimberly Amari and Heidi VanderBloomer also scored. Assists were credited to Alissa Menotti, Natalie Mariduena, Pecht, VanderBloomer, Clatch and Alex Goldstein.

Vernon Hills will play NSC Lake champ Lake Forest (12-3-4, 5-1) on the Scouts’ home field at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in conference championship game.

“We’re happy to be the representative for the Prairie,” Vernon Hills coach Vince DeLuca said. “The girls had to work hard to win it. It’s unfortunate that both teams (Vernon Hills and Wauconda) can’t go. A lot of credit goes out to (Wauconda).”

CL South 2, Grayslake Central 0: Kali Loesscher and Karli Schumaker scored for the Gators in the Fox Valley Conference match.

Elizabeth Quinn notched her 11th shutout for Crystal Lake South (15-7-2, 10-2).

Grayslake Central fell to 13-5 and 8-3.

Jacobs 1, Grayslake North 0: The Golden Eagles prevailed in a shootout, winning 4-3 in kicks.

“We saw just how competitive we truly can be,” Grayslake North coach Adam DeCaluwe said. “Jacobs is a quality side, with a lot of players that can beat you. But we played fantastically behind the ball and made it really hard for them to play the game the way they wanted to.”

Junior keeper Brooke Sauer made 11 saves for the Knights, who fell to 7-9-1.
