Two accused of leaving 5-year-old home alone in McHenry

Two men have been charged with misdemeanor child endangerment after a parole officer making a routine check at a home in unincorporated McHenry County found a 5-year-old boy home alone.

The boy's father, Nathan L. Green, 24, along with Alex A. Martinez, 68, who is the child's great grandfather and legal guardian, were arrested by McHenry County Sheriff's Deputies, officials said.

The sheriff's department said the boy was home alone about 90 minutes.

A parole officer was making a check on a parolee living at the home in the 2600 block of South Highwood Road when the boy answered the door and said he was home alone.

Both men are due in court on May 23, according to court records.
