Suspect fit for trial:

The man charged with the 2010 murder of Marina Aksman in her Vernon Hills home has been found psychologically fit to stand trial, a prosecutor said Tuesday. Daniel Baker, 21, faces up to life in prison if convicted of the April 1, 2010 beating death of the woman, who police say was trying to end Baker's relationship with her daughter. Defense attorneys claimed last month they believed there was a chance their client was not fit for trial, but Assistant State's Attorney Patricia Fix said a report by psychologist Karen Chantry says Baker is capable of understanding the charges against him and assisting in his own defense. Waukegan attorney Michael Nerheim told Circuit Judge Fred Foreman that Baker's defense team has not yet decided if they will challenge Chantry's finding, and Foreman ordered all parties to return to court June 3 to discuss how they will proceed in the matter.
