Red light cams coming to Lakemoor in summer

Lakemoor’s red-light cameras are expected to be activated in July at routes 12 and 120.

Route 12 is a popular highway to and from Wisconsin and the Chain O’ Lakes for suburban residents. Lakemoor will join Fox Lake, Wauconda, Lake Zurich, Kildeer and Deer Park as towns with photo enforcement on Route 12 in Lake County.

Lakemoor Village President Todd Weihofen said once the cameras at routes 12 and 120 are activated any tickets issued will be warnings for the first month. The $100 fines, which aren’t moving violations, likely will start in August.

Only southbound Route 12 at Route 120 won’t have the photo enforcement equipment to be supplied by SafeSpeed LLC of Chicago, Weihofen said. He’s maintained the cameras are about making the intersection safer, not generating revenue.

Lakemoor police officials have said the Route 12-Route 120 intersection is one of the busiest in Lake County.
