Driver in Aurora accident turns himself in
Aurora police say the 21-year-old driver who they believe backed his vehicle over and killed his 15-month-old nephew Saturday has turned himself in for questioning.
Rodolfo Pichardo, 21, of the 400 block of Hinman contacted a family member Monday who convinced him to surrender, police said.
Pichardo, accompanied by several family members, turned himself in Monday afternoon and was being questioned by police. Pichardo had not been charged with a crime as of Monday evening.
Police say he struck 15-month-old Jared Pichardo with his green 2002 Ford Explorer SUV around 4:45 p.m. Saturday and fled with his 24-year-old brother.
Police responded to the home and found the boy in the driveway with massive injuries.
Paramedics took the boy to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora where he was pronounced dead at 5:25 p.m. Saturday.
Aurora Lt. Pete Inda said Monday the tragedy appeared to be an accident but police still want to talk to the brother who fled the accident with Rodolfo Pichardo.
