Fire destroys Lakemoor home

A faulty electric heater is being blamed for a fire that left a Lakemoor house uninhabitable, officials said.

McHenry Township Fire Protection District Assistant Fire Chief Mike Majercik said crews were called to the scene of the fire at 7:42 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of Elaine Terrace. They saw heavy smoke and fire throughout the first floor of the single-story home when they arrived.

No one was home at the time the fire started, and no injuries were reported, officials said.

The fire was under control within 20 minutes, but not before fire and smoke caused about $100,000 in damage, Majercik said. Investigators determined a faulty electric heater sparked the blaze.

He said the home was uninhabitable and residents were staying with family members.
