Board must stop infighting

A few months ago, I asked what the cost of being “right” would actually cost the residents of Island Lake. It is with sadness that it appears to be costing the village $50,000 and climbing.

A legal battle between the two law firms we now have representing our little village; a lawsuit by the mayor against two current trustees and two former trustees to stop these trustees from illegally imposing new laws they have decided the village needs; a headhunter being retained to find a new director of finance, by a trustee without obtaining board approval; sending to the news agencies a new flow chart for village workers (which included the elimination of an entire department) without the entire village board ever seeing it; a village trustee hounding the chief of police at a board meeting if he ever had been arrested for a criminal act (which has been proven without a doubt he hasn’t).

This village is in worse shape than we have ever been in. Please, for the sake of our village, trustees stop. Now. As you drive around town, look and see where $50,000.00 could have been spent. Think of how you would have felt to read in the paper that you had been fired or lost your job. How you would have felt if you were accused of a criminal act or you had lied about it.

This fighting is costing our village much more than money. Do you really think what has taken place is for the betterment of our village? If you do, then you are in denial. I urge the board to go to mediation, compromise. Allow our village to heal from this fiasco you have caused both financially and emotionally. Thank you.
