Fire damages Arlington Heights home
Firefighters ripped through an Arlington Heights home’s walls this afternoon to prevent a fire from spreading upstairs, officials said.
The owner of the house on the 200 block of North Haddow called 911 just after 2 p.m. after seeing smoke coming from the basement, said Arlington Heights Cmdr. Bill Essling.
The first responding firefighters saw smoke coming from the house and, once inside, tore through the walls in the finished basement, first floor and attic as the fire was moving upward, fire officials said.
Essling said home’s 1920s construction allowed the fire to travel up the wall to the first floor but was stopped there.
Firefighters remained on the scene for about an hour and a half.
The Glenview, Lake Zurich and Elk Grove Village fire departments sent trucks and ambulances to cover Arlington Heights stations during the fire.
Elk Grove firefighters put out a car fire in Arlington Heights while covering, Essling said.
“The cooperation between the towns paid off,” he said.
