Barrington student art work on display at South Barrington shopping center

An Earth Month art project conceptualized by Barbara Rose Elementary art teacher Daniel Gonka will be on display from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at Red 21 at The Arboretum of South Barrington, 100 W. Higgins Road, South Barrington.

Gonka asked his fourth- and fifth-grade students at the Barrington school to answer the questions, “What is Earth Day about?” and “How can we preserve nature?” and recorded answers on pieces of newspaper. Younger students have been discussing Earth Day in class and drew out the shapes of various leaves and petals in water color on the paper that the older students prepared, allowing their answers to shine through.

The final work will be arranged in 12 separate art canvasses that are assembled to create one large display that reads like a narrative.

Refreshments will be served. Call (847) 426-6200 or go to shopthearboretumsb.com for information.
