Girls soccer / Lake County roundup

The senior midfielder scored twice, and Melanie Swager made 4 saves in goal, as Mundelein’s girls soccer team blanked Metea Valley 3-0 in a Pepsi Showdown opener Tuesday night.

Ashley Begrowicz also scored and had an assist for the Mustangs, who improved to 5-0-1. Abbey Ekstrom and Alia Munley had assists as well.

Lake Zurich 3, Glenbrook South 2: Molly Murin, Brooke Sill and Josie Willman scored for the Bears in the Pepsi Showdown game.

Vanessa Abad had 2 assists for Lake Zurich (1-2-1). Alex Nasca had an assist, as well, while keeper Maggie Monson made 5 saves.

McHenry 3, Grayslake Central 0: The Rams suffered their first loss of the season.

Grayslake Central (5-1) fell victim to three counter-attack goals but played a great game, coach Mike McCaulou said.

Prairie Ridge 2, Grayslake North 0: The Wolves scored twice in the first half.
