Grass fire burns more than 100 acres of Huntley marsh

No one was injured in a grass fire Tuesday that burned near Route 47 in Huntley, officials from the Huntley Fire Protection District said.

Fire fighters were called to the 41W600 block of Powers Road with reports of the marshland fire behind the Jewel Food Store.

The fire had already burned through 10 to 15 acres of marshland when firefighters arrived on the scene, officials said, Over the course of the day, the wind kept the marshland burning over more than 100 acres of land, officials said.

Firefighters from Huntley, Cary, Nunda Rural, Marengo, Lakewood, Union, Crystal Lake, Algonquin, Woodstock, Rutland-Dundee Township, Carpentersville, McHenry, Genoa-Kingston and Richmond were called to the scene to assist in putting out the fire.

No businesses on Route 47 were evacuated due to the fire, officials said.
