Softball/Fox Valley roundup

Kara Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a big sixth-inning triple Wednesday as South Elgin knocked off Geneva 3-2 in Upstate Eight Conference softball action.

The Storm scored 2 runs in the sixth to secure the win for junior Sam Bolin, who fired a complete-game 6-hitter with 8 strikeouts. Bolin is now 5-2 on the season while South Elgin moved to 6-3 and 2-0 in the UEC.

Neuqua Valley 2, Larkin 1: Kiernan Shock doubled and scored on a single from Nikki Banks but Larkin (5-7, 0-2) fell to Neuqua on the road in the Upstate Eight. Megan Johnson was the losing pitcher. “It’s a great moral victory for our team,” said Larkin coach Larry Hight. “Neuqua Valley is a great softball team and to lose to them 2-1 was great. We haven’t been that close in five years.” Corinne Wimmer and Alex Buhrow each had 2 hits for the Royals.

Waubonsie Valley 8, Streamwood 5: Haley Foret and Kaylie Jambor each had 2 hits for the Sabres (1-4, 0-2) in this Upstate Eight loss. Dani Fisher drive in 2 runs for the Sabres and Kellee Conquest was the losing pitcher.

Metea Valley 4, Elgin 2: The Maroons (6-3, 0-2) fell for the second straight day in the Upstate Eight. Anna Eckholm was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Elgin, while Elizabeth Gorski had 2 hits. Jennah Perryman (3-2) as the losing pitcher.

Batavia 6, Bartlett 3: Jacki Gulczynski had a double for Bartlett (3-4, 1-1) in this Upstate Eight loss. Tori Burke was the losing pitcher for the Hawks.
