For Wheaton Academy senior, less is Moore

There’s no pressure on Wheaton Academy’s Devin Moore this year, and that’s apparent in the way he’s playing tennis.

As a senior, he’s already made his college choice, he’s finished with high school soccer, and he’s even finished work as a performer in the school musical “Beauty and the Beast.”

“Devin is free and easy this year,” said Wheaton Academy coach Matt Hockett. “He’s playing well, hitting with more pace and he’s always been great at analyzing his game and making adjustments and improvements. Our goal is to put him in a position to help us win conference and then have him go on and qualify for state again. With his athleticism, hard work and experience, this should be a good season.”

Moore, an all-area midfielder, had a successful soccer season in the fall and he will be going to Taylor University on a soccer scholarship.

“Devin has a tendency to super-focus,” Hockett said. “The more we can get him to relax the better player he is. His success has always been about staying calm, and not about his talent and skills. This year, he’s out there having fun and he enjoys being a part of the team. He’s a captain and a leader who loves the team framework.”

Moore carried a 4.59 GPA while earning All-State Academic team honors. Along with being named to the high honor roll at Wheaton Academy, he was also a member of the National Honor Society.

Moore, whose brother Davis starred for both Wheaton Academy and Wheaton College, is also active in a fund-raising program at Wheaton Academy “Project Lead,” which has already raised more than $10,000 to build a school in Zambia.”

Consistency key for Krzyzaniak :Matt Krzyzaniak has made the big leap from third to first singles and he has developed into a consistent winner. The Glenbard North sophomore has grown 2 inches and added some muscle, which have helped him add more of a power game to his abundant skills.#147;When Matt came in he was one of the more seasoned freshmen we#146;ve had in the program,#148; said Panthers coach Doug Clark. #147;There wasn#146;t any weakness in his game. He had all the shots. He just needed more power and he#146;s getting that as he goes along. The best part of his game is consistency. He has a great backhand and forehand and he can put it corner to corner. And he#146;s getting the confidence to where he knows he can match up with anybody.#148;At the beginning of last year, Krzyzaniak was a baseline player, but he played a lot of doubles and proved to be a good volleyer and an all-around asset at the net. Clark believes that the doubles experience has helped Krzyzaniak#146;s singles game. #147;With him making the jump from third singles to first, I thought we were going to take our lumps there,#148; said Clark. #147;But Matt has some good victories. I#146;ll be surprised if he#146;s not seeded at conference.#148;The obvious tendency is to compare Krzyzaniak to former Panther Matt Boguslawski, who now plays at North Central.#147;Boguslawski had more power,#148; said Clark. #147;But Krzyzaniak is more consistent. Boguslawski went to top 24 at state, but we think Krzyzaniak can do that eventually. They have the same work ethic.#148;Clark reports that Krzyzaniak is a straight #147;A honor student, who has become a leader by example for the Panthers.Raiders team up:During the Glenbard South football season the job of offensive lineman Dan Marshall was to protect quarterback Bobby Parratore, but now during the tennis season the two seniors are looking out for each other.Marshall and Parratore tried out for the Raiders#146; tennis team for the first time this year as seniors and they#146;re playing regularly at fourth-doubles.#147;They both just played park district tennis in the past,#148; said Glenbard South coach Mark Conrad. #147;They wanted to try tennis to round out their senior year. They have the fundamental skills and they work well together as a unit. They#146;re good at communicating, coordinating their movements and they play off each other#146;s strengths.#147;They both have quick feet and they#146;re both aggressive and fearless at the net,#148; Conrad said. #147;They both like to pound the ball.#148;Conrad reports that the Marshall-Parratore duo is 4-0 thus far this season.#147;They#146;ve been a really pleasant surprise,#148; Conrad said.
