COD endorsement is mystifying

The Daily Herald, in justifying its endorsement of Erin Birt for one of the positions on the board of trustees for College of DuPage, claims that she understands the college from the student’s perspective.

I cannot see how Ms. Birt, whatever her thoughtfulness, has demonstrated this understanding when she has studiously avoided any interaction with the college’s student newspaper, and has shown contempt for the rest of the college community by ignoring a candidate forum held at the college.

Indeed, she has been utterly invisible to date. Surely a candidate has to earn an endorsement by participating in the democratic process in good faith. Dianne McGuire and Max Bochmann are two candidates who not only are the best qualified for the job but they are also doing the work to prove it.
