Support for ‘unity’ candidate in Winfield
Winfield voters will choose three individuals on April 5 to represent them on the village board. This campaign has been a downright ugly one. There have been many accusations flying about and the average voter has no way to discern the truth from fiction in the campaign rhetoric.
There has been a lot of talk about endorsing candidates lately. I endorse the idea of unity in our village government. Candidates and village officials may have lofty visions for our fine town, but these visions will never come true as long as Winfield remains divided. While candidates and elected officials exchange verbal blows, time that could be spent improving Winfield goes to waste.
Instead of insulting each other, candidates and village officials should be listening to the comments of constituents throughout all of Winfield. I have come to question whether this election is a campaign of one-upmanship or a campaign of improvement for our village.
It is for this reason that I endorse the idea of unity in our village government instead of a specific candidate. I feel the candidate most able to work with others to improve the village, regardless of the method, is most qualified to serve as my representative on the village board. I personally don’t care about who is a member of what group and who has done what. All of that finger pointing, on the part of all parties, takes the spotlight away from the issues. This is not a divide and conquer town. In the coming days leading up to the election, I will be suggesting to my friends and neighbors the candidate who can unite the village.
