Woman dies in Naperville house fire
An 82-year-old woman was killed and her husband severely burned Thursday morning when fire destroyed their Naperville home at 240 James Lane.
The DuPage County coroner’s office identified the victim as Lorraine Studin and said she suffered “overwhelming burns.”
Her husband, Anthony Studin, is being treated at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood for severe burns.
Authorities said the first firefighters arrived at 9:25 a.m. and immediately found heavy flames coming from the rear of the house and heavy smoke throughout.
Anthony Studin was able to escape and alert firefighters that Lorraine was still inside. Her badly burned body was found in the family room on the first floor.
State and local fire officials still are investigating the cause of the blaze that appears to have started at the rear of the home.
Deputy Fire Chief Rick Sander, in a written statement issued late Thursday, declared the home uninhabitable and estimated damage to be in excess of $400,000.
Studin’s autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
