Winfield’s special interest group?

I have learned that Winfield trustee candidates Glenn VadeBonCoeur, Cliff Mortenson and Jim Hughes have claimed that they will self-fund their election campaigns. Trustee VadeBonCoeur says, “Candidates who accept money from outside interests are likely to give favors to those interests, at the expense of our residents.”

I am shocked and amazed that after making the pledge to self-fund their campaigns these three candidates have not only taken money from the Political Action Committee Winfield United, but also allowed Winfield United to print their door hangers, yard signs and campaign propaganda.

Winfield United is clearly an outside interest that is run by self-proclaimed WU Director Dennis Clark. He lives outside the Winfield limits near unincorporated Warrenville and does not pay Winfield taxes to fix Winfield roads, fund Winfield police pensions or maintain Winfield’s crumbling infrastructure.

Dennis Clark is currently rallying all the unincorporated homeowners on Winfield’s southern flank to support VadeBonCoeur, Mortenson and Hughes with election money and labor for their campaigns. Clark is doing this because he doesn’t like the concept of utilizing Roosevelt Road between Winfield Road and Gary’s Mill Road to create sustainable revenues by changing the zoning of area to commercial.

As a non-resident, Clark’s behavior is shameless, but what of VadeBonCoeur, Mortenson and Hughes? A level-headed Winfield voter should be able to see Winfield United is protecting non-resident interests over the citizen’s need to create sustainable revenues.

One thing is clear to me: accepting money from special interests does require a politician to do special ”favors” at the resident’s expense. That is why I am voting for Tony Reyes and Tim Allen in the election on April 5.
