Registration ends May 14.Underground Railroad presentationLake County's role in the Underground Railroad will be the topic of discussion at the Libertyville-Mundelein Historical Society's monthly meeting, 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 12. The presentation by Ty Rohrer, supervisor of the Waukegan Historical Society, is at the Libertyville Township offices, 359 Merrill Court, Libertyville. Some estimates show that by 1850, more than 100,000 slaves had escaped to freedom using the network of secret routes and safe houses. Some of the Underground Railroad routes made their way through Lake County, with known stops in Waukegan, Gurnee and Milburn. The meeting is free and open to the public. Dundee Ave. The state budget, economic development and job creation are among the issues to be highlighted. The meeting will be hosted by state Rep. Carol Sente, who will provide a legislative update and touch on prominent issues and pending legislation. The 59th district includes all or parts of Buffalo Grove, Green Oaks, Gurnee, Indian Creek, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire, Long Grove, Mettawa, Mundelein, Northbrook, North Chicago, Park City, Riverwoods, Vernon Hills, Waukegan, and Wheeling.Health report dueThe Lake County Board's health and community services committee will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 6 to review a community health report. The document is a collection of 50 reports reflecting the overall health of counties. The meeting will be held at the county government center, 18 N. County St., Waukegan.Wauconda Arbor Day saleThe village of Wauconda is inviting residents to the Arbor Day tree and shrub sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 1, at the Acres Group parking lot, 610 W. Liberty. Residents can chose from evergreen, ornamental and shade trees and other shrubs. The Wauconda Public Works Department will provide free tree delivery to Wauconda residents, and residents who purchase a tree or shrub are welcome to free compost. For details, call (847) 526-5580.
