Guitarist Jimmie Vaughan to perform at Prairie Center Sunday
As Guitar Player Magazine notes, “He is a virtual deity — a living legend.” Audiences can hear the legend when Jimmie Vaughan and the Tilt-a-Whirl Band perform at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23 at the Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts.
Staring a career in the late 1960s, Texas-native Jimmie Vaughan was an integral part of the Austin blues revival of the '70s. After a 10-year stint with his band The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Vaughan started flying solo in the '90s.
Vaughan's latest record, “Plays More Blues, Ballads & Favorites” (a follow-up to the previous year's “Plays Blues, Ballads & Favorites”) is a second helping of covers of the roots music that inspired him, with renditions of songs by Ray Charles, Hank Williams Sr., Lloyd Price, Jimmy Reed and others. The album was recorded in Austin, Texas, and features legendary blues singer Lou Ann Barton on three tracks. Barton will join the six-piece band in concert at the Prairie Center.
Tickets for Jimmie Vaughan and the Tilt-a-Whirl Band are $32; $30 for students and seniors. Visit prairiecenter.org or call (847) 895-3600. The Prairie Center for the Arts is at 201 Schaumburg Court, Schaumburg.
