Your news Boy Scouts re-enact famous battle in Gettysburg

Twenty-three Boy Scouts and adult leaders from Barrington's Troop 29 recently traveled to the National Military Park and battleground in Gettysburg, Pa.

The boys simulated the role of the Confederate's 15th Alabama Infantry, who charged the extreme left flank of the Union Army defended by the 20th Maine, and held the high ground at Big Roundtop and Little Roundtop. The boys carried replicas of circa 1863 muskets along with a Confederate flag and their own Troop 29 flag.

The Troop camped for three nights on the battlegrounds at McMillan Woods, which was at the center of the Confederate line formed for General Pickett's charge on the last day of the battle.

The Boy Scouts are the only organization allowed by the National Park Service to camp on the Gettysburg Battleground. The boys raised money to defray some of the travel costs by selling American flags this past summer. The four-day trip wrapped up with visits to the National Cemetery, the location of Lincoln's famous Gettysburg Address.
