Health department to host community meetings
Submitted by Kane County Health Department
For the first time, results of the Kane County Community Health Assessment are available online in a webinar format.
Check out the easy-to-use webinar that provides new, updated information on the overall health of the community, a progress report on the last community health improvement plan and nine recommended key opportunities for community health improvement over the next five years.
After viewing the webinar, an online survey will be available to provide your input about which of the nine issues are the most critical to address.
A comprehensive Community Health Assessment is conducted every five years to identify the top health priorities in our community. Results of the assessment are used to develop a Community Health Improvement Plan that helps agencies make Kane County a healthier place to live, work and play.
This year, the health department collaborated with the five hospitals in the county, the INC Board, United Way of Elgin and the Fox Valley United Way to jointly fund the assessment. The Northern Illinois University Public Opinion Laboratory was contracted to survey more than 2,000 adults and 420 children about their health.
The Health Department and its partners also are hosting Community Cafés on Thursday, Oct. 27, in Elgin and Aurora, asking residents what changes would help make Kane County a healthier place. The first cafe will be held from 5:15 to 8 p.m. at Community Christian Church, 76 S. LaSalle St., Aurora; enter from Benton on Lincoln. The second one will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Illinois Park School, 1350 Wing St., Elgin. To register, contact Jackie Forbes, Kane County Health Department, at (630) 208-5155 or email forbesjackie@co.kane.il.us Dinner will be served and free child care is available. Visit kanehealth.com/iplan.htm.
Information from the assessment, the online survey and the community meetings will be used to help inform the development of the Kane County Community Health Improvement Plan to be released in early 2012.
The webinar and survey will be available through Friday, Nov. 4.
