Flanagan seeks to keep Geneva seat

Geneva 4th Ward Alderman Dorothy Flanagan announced Wednesday she is seeking re-election in April.

Flanagan has been an alderman since 1995.

In a prepared statement, she said the greatest challenges the city will face in the next few years come from the struggling economy.

“Our goal will be to do more with less, which has been one of my guiding principles in both business and public service, she said.

Flanagan is the council liaison to the Geneva Beautification Committee, which plants the flowers in beds and containers throughout the downtown area.

She ran for mayor in 1997 and lost to Tom Coughlin.

Office-seekers can circulate nomination petitions. The petitions must be filed between Dec. 13 and Dec. 20. The election is April 5.

The alderman's seat is for a four-year term.
