Roselle museum to host living-history fundraiser

Sue Spachman knows it's contradictory to say she works to keep the Roselle Historical Museum current.

But that, she says, is exactly why the museum will sponsor its annual Historical Evening fundraiser on Saturday, April 10. Money raised from the event will support updating and enhancing exhibits, as well as annual free programs such as the holiday open house.

"You don't want residents to say, 'Oh I was there four years ago and it's still the same,'" said Spachman, fundraiser chairwoman and museum vice president. "You need to attract new people and keep interest."

So on Saturday the museum will host actor Terry Lynch, who will dress in turn-of-the-century period clothing and bring to life the stories of Chicago moguls Marshall Field, William Wrigley, Charles Walgreen, Ray Kroc and Frederick Maytag.

Spachman said the annual event traditionally features living history presentations and grows every year, attracting about 130 people last spring.

This year's fundraiser will begin with a wine and cheese reception featuring spirits from Roselle's Lynfred Winery. After the show, supporters can snack on cookies made by museum volunteers.

The Roselle-centric touches are what make the event special, Spachman said.

"This is a great chance to come out after a long winter, visit with your neighbors and support your community," she said.

Advance tickets are $12 and can be purchased at the Roselle village hall, 31 S. Prospect St., or at the History Museum's office, 39 E. Elm St.
