Man arrested after firing shot in Elgin business; no one hurt

A 23-year-old Elgin faces a weapons charge alleging he fired a gun into the floor of a downtown auto shop during an altercation with his former boss.

No one was injured when Kyle Horn fired the bullet inside Elgin Driveline, 226 State St., late Monday morning, Elgin police spokeswoman Sue Olafson said.

Horn, who lives on the 8N100 Block of Peppertree Lane, was charged with aggravated discharge of a weapon and unlawful use of a weapon, according to police.

“This was definitely an ex-employee versus employer dispute,” Olafson said.

Olafson said another employee was working there when the altercation occurred, but no customers were inside the shop.

Police said the altercation remains under investigation. Horn is scheduled to appear in bond court Tuesday morning.
