Palatine area Relay kickoff is Feb. 25The kickoff celebration for the annual Relay For Life of Palatine/Rolling Meadows/ Inverness will be 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25 at Lamplighter's Inn in Palatine, open to all ages. In addition to learning about how the American Cancer Society saves lives by helping people stay well, by helping people get well, by finding cures and by fighting back, guests will be treated to refreshments, have an opportunity to win prizes, and hear from cancer survivors and caregivers. Relay For Life is an overnight event where teams of local businesses, schools, churches, community groups and families build awareness and raise funds - before and at the event - to fight cancer. This year's chapter Relay will be held from 6 p.m. June 11 to 6 a.m., June 12 at Harper College in Palatine.Volunteers are needed to organize and recruit teams, secure community support, coordinate logistics, obtain refreshments and prizes, assist with publicity and plan entertainment activities. It features local floral designers Christine Plier of Flowers by Christine; KathiRose of Kaleidoscope of Floral Design and Anton Englemann of Town Country Gardens in Bartlett, who will create centerpieces as you watch. Curtis Fischer and Brian Glaus will give patients a free initial consultation, examination and two X-rays (if needed) - services which have a value of up to $250.
