Jackowiec, McCormick, Juby for D304 board

I am a retired Geneva High School English teacher. I began my teaching career in Minnesota in l965, started teaching in Geneva in the l975/76 school year, and retired from District 304 in 2003.

My wife and I have lived in Geneva for 36 years and our children are graduates of Geneva High School.

A number of very difficult issues will challenge all members of the community in the years to come. To meet these challenges, I am endorsing George Jackowiec, Leslie Juby and Mike McCormick for the school board.

George Jackowiec thinks, “Excellent education and fiscal responsibility are not diametrically opposed.” Leslie Juby says she is an “independent thinker” who sees the need for “balancing success for all students with taxpayer needs.” Mike McCormick agrees with this common theme: “It is important to have a good quality school system that is fiscally responsible yet answerable to the people of Geneva.”

I believe that these candidates are independent thinkers, and I like their credentials. I applaud all school board candidates who seek elective office to fulfill the oath, which says, in part: “I shall respect taxpayer interests by serving as a faithful protector of the school district’s assets.”

I read “assets” as the students, the programs, the faculty and the taxpayers. Jackowiec, Juby, and McCormick are good choices.
