Antioch traffic stop leads to McHenry man's arrest

A routine traffic stop in McHenry revealed a stash of cocaine and cash last weekend after the driver tried to trick an Antioch police officer, authorities said.

Police pulled over 45-year-old Bruce Safraniec of McHenry on March 25 near the intersection of Main Street and Route 173. During what was described as a routine traffic stop, Safraniec provided false information, but police determined his real identity and realized he was driving with a revoked license, authorities said.

A search of the vehicle uncovered “numerous” individually wrapped packets of cocaine and a “large amount” of cash, according to police.

He was also in possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

Safraniec's 2006 Lincoln Navigator and the money were seized by police under the Illinois Drug Asset Forfeiture act.

He was charged with a felony counts of possession of a controlled substance and obstructing justice along with possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while license revoked and other minor traffic offenses.
