Major fire damages Schaumburg house

The Schaumburg Fire Department raced to the scene of a raging two-story house fire early Sunday morning after a 911 call reported a resident trapped inside.

Luckily, the report of someone stuck in a second-floor bedroom turned out to be false, but the home may be a complete loss, according to fire officials.

Schaumburg firefighters arrived at the two-story house on the 800 block of Holyoke Court at about 4:25 a.m. and found flames shooting out of almost every window in the home, said Batallion Chief Michael Diaferia.

“It was a sizable task,” he said. “The entire structure was burning.”

The department sounded a box alarm because of the size of the fire and the report of the trapped person inside.

Diaferia said there is no reason to believe foul play was involved, but said it was “very unusual” that the entire residence was on fire by the time the department arrived.

Firefighters remained at the scene until about 9:30 a.m. clearing damage and overhauling the structure to make sure every patch of heat was out.

The cause of the blaze remained under investigation Sunday night.

“It was a pretty intense fire,” Diaferia said. “They did a fine job of stopping it.”

A damage estimate was not available Sunday, but the residence was left uninhabitable and a significant portion of the home was lost, fire officials said.
