Ex-NFL QB Schlichter charged in $1M theft

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A former Ohio State quarterback whose NFL career was derailed by a gambling addiction has been charged with stealing more than $1 million from an Ohio woman.

Art Schlichter was charged with theft Monday in Franklin County Municipal Court in Columbus.

Schlichter is accused of stealing more than $1 million from a woman in Dublin by deceiving her about the reason he took the money.

The 50-year-old Schlichter, who played for Ohio State from 1978 to 1981, spent 10 years in prison for gambling-related crimes. He played for the Baltimore and Indianapolis Colts and Buffalo Bills, and the Detroit and Cincinnati Arena League teams. The NFL has suspended him for life.

A message seeking comment was left at Schlichter's home. He's due in court Tuesday.
