Scouting Stevenson at Zion-Benton
Stevenson (6-0, 4-0) at Zion-Benton (0-6, 0-3)
When: 7:30 p.m., today
Last week: Stevenson def. Lake Zurich, 24-23; Zion-Benton lost to Libertyville, 41-28.
Skinny: On paper, this seems like a no-brainer. 6-0 versus 0-6. No contest, right? But Stevenson coach Bill McNamara isn't allowing his team to go there. He says that an 0-6 team is the most dangerous kind of team for his players right now. "More than any other week, we've had a very business-like approach during practice," McNamara said. "Zion-Benton can be a very dangerous team for us right now. We're coming off a very big win against Lake Zurich, and our guys feel very good about that. But it's also just one game of a lot of games we have to play this season and we still haven't met all of our goals yet."-The Patriots will need to stay sharp against a Zion-Benton offense and defense that is chameleon-like and changes its looks often. "Zion-Benton is so unpredictable offensively and defensively," McNamara said. "On offense, they've got multiple sets that they run. They're not afraid to throw the ball. Their skill position players are very good and they just want to get them the ball in the open field. Defensively, Zion-Benton is always changing fronts, blitzing, changing their coverages. We've got to be ready for a lot of different looks."-Meanwhile, the Zee-Bees need to be prepared for a Stevenson offense that is clicking on all cylinders after an impressive two-minute drill that went 80-yards and scored a game-winning touchdown in the waning moments of a come-from-behind victory over Lake Zurich last week. Quarterback Preston Earl and his top receivers, Stephen Salata and Jaffar Mascoll, hooked up for some big-time completions to move the ball quickly down the field."-Stevenson's defense, which got big games last week out of lineman Maxx Wujcik and cornerback Carl Miller, is allowing just 12.8 points per game.
