Cary helps state clear Route 14

The Cary public works department is helping out state crews in clearing out snow from Route 14 in order to ease commuter traffic today.

This morning, only one lane in each direction was open for traffic along Route 14 through Cary and Fox River Grove, Village Administrator Cameron Davis said.

“That’s a state road. Normally we don’t do that, but unfortunately it wasn’t completely plowed so we’re helping the state to remove the snow,” he said.

All village roads have been plowed, and today village crews were also focusing on salting roads and making sure that intersections are as safe as possible, Davis said. “We have some humongous piles of snow, even 15-foot-high at the (Metra) train station,” he said.

Power outages caused by broken light poles in the Cary Woods subdivision were fixed by ComEd by 6 p.m. last night, he said.

The Cary Fire Protection District’s fire station at 400 Cary-Algonquin Road serves as a warming station during cold weather.
