Happy days are gone again
The Democrats, once the people’s party, coined a song of “Happy Days” on winning elections and after the passing of an income tax increase of 67 percent by the lame-ducks the Illinois residents can only sing the blues.
According to the Chicago Tribune, shortly after winning the election in November, the Democratic leaders, Pat Quinn, Michael Madigan and John Cullerton, negotiated the tax increase knowing that time was running out to take advantage of a “lame-duck” session before new lawmakers were sworn in. Also, 24 hours before approving the income tax increase, the votes weren’t there.
Therefore, they dangled deals to bag the votes to pass the tax increase. For some “lame-duck” lawmakers, either retiring or defeated in November, were offered post-legislative careers working for Pat Quinn — fat patronage jobs.
Today, all the politicians are crying out to the public in lowering the discourse after the Arizona killings by a deranged person. If the public didn’t have these same politicians lie repeatedly to them loudly in their election commercials and cause the public to get angry, the world would be a better place. When they say no tax increase and rush a tax increase in a lame duck session to push their agenda against the will of the people, how can they be surprised by the people’s anger?
“Happy days are gone again. The skies above are gray again. So let’s sing a song of gloom again. Happy days are gone again.”
