Poetry contest at Palatine library

In honor of National Poetry month, the Palatine Public Library District will hold a poetry contest from March 15-April 15.

“Last year we had over 60 poems submitted,” said librarian Megan Buttera, “and we hope to have even more this year.”

Participants of all ages can submit their best original poem for a chance to win the Nancy Heggem Poetry Award.

Palatine resident Nancy Heggem, a published author herself, will donate a personal cash prize and, along with two other judges, will choose the best poem from each age category.

Guidelines and official entry forms are available online (www.palatinelibrary.org) and at all library locations. Age categories include youth, teen, and adult. District cardholders are encouraged to submit one poem, with a 50 line limit. A display of entries will be available for viewing throughout April at the main library.

The Palatine Public Library District serves approximately 90,000 residents predominantly within the communities of Palatine and Hoffman Estates. The library district’s mission is to encourage lifelong learning and enrichment through the exploration of books and other media and to provide services and materials that will promote a well-informed and literate community.
