Small fire damages Schaumburg industrial roof
A fire at a Schaumburg industrial building caused about $10,000 in damage to the roof late Wednesday morning, according to fire officials.
The Schaumburg Fire Department responded to numerous reports of smoke billowing from the roof of an industrial building on the 1900 block of Mitchell Boulevard at 11:13 a.m. Wednesday, said Batallion Chief Mike Diaferia.
Firefighters made their way onto the 35-foot-high roof, pulled away a portion of the roofing and were able to put out the fire fairly quickly, he said.
“I don’t see any reason to believe there was any foul play,” Diaferia said. “For some reason, whether it was electronic or heating components, it got the roof membrane burning and some of the insulation beneath it.”
The building was not evacuated while firefighters responded, and nobody was injured.
