Quenneville out of hospital

Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville was released from the hospital Saturday after a three-day stay for a bleeding ulcer.

There is still no timetable for Quenneville's return to the bench. Assistant coach Mike Haviland will run the club for the third straight game Sunday against Pittsburgh at the United Center.

“Joel was released from the hospital (Saturday) and is resting comfortably at home,” said Hawks team physician Dr. Michael Terry. “We will continue to monitor him and still anticipate a full recovery. We are working to determine when it is best for him to return to his coaching duties.”

Haviland said he spoke with Quenneville for 20-25 minutes on the phone following Friday's disappointing 4-3 loss to Columbus.

“We basically talked about the missed opportunities we had, talked about juggling some lines around,” Haviland told reporters Saturday. “The first line (of Jonathan Toews, Patrick Sharp and Patrick Kane) had a good night, but we were looking for a little bit more from everyone else. That was basically the gist of the conversation.”

There's a good chance the Hawks won't have Quenneville behind the bench again Monday at St. Louis. Their next game after that is Thursday at Nashville.
