Police: Man struck victims during Marengo break-in
A Fox River Grove man was caught hiding in a Marengo business late Sunday night after authorities said he broke into an unincorporated Marengo home and hit two residents with a piece of wood.
Frank E. Reed, 38, whose last known address is on the 400 block of Lincoln Road, made admissions linking himself to the Sunday night home invasion and battery of a man and woman inside a home on the 10600 block of Coon Creek Road, according to authorities.
Deputies of the McHenry County Sheriff's Department responded to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock at 11:21 p.m. Sunday regarding a 38-year-old woman and 31-year-old man who were being treated for injuries suffered during the attack, according to the department.
Both victims identified Reed as the assailant, who they said broke into the Marengo home while they were sleeping and struck them with a “large piece of wood,” authorities said.
Reed was taken into custody Sunday night and charged with felony home invasion by force, two counts of aggravated battery, misdemeanor domestic battery and violation of an order of protection.
Physical evidence linking him to the crime was recovered by sheriff's deputies, according to authorities.
Reed's criminal history includes a criminal trespassing to a residence and a battery charge stemming from an early October incident, according to court records. He was also charged with battery and domestic battery in 2000.
Reed is being held at the McHenry County jail on $101,000 bond.
His next court date is set for Jan. 19.
