Algonquin chimney fire ruled accidental

A chimney fire that broke out in an Algonquin home late Saturday night was ruled an accident, investigators said Sunday.

Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District responded to a call at about 11:45 p.m. for a chimney fire at a two-story home in the 600 block of Circle Drive. It took crews about 20 minutes to put out the fire that had already begun to spread into the attic when firefighters arrived.

The residents and pets evacuated before firefighters got to the home. There were no injuries reported within the family or the fire crews, officials said.

A damage estimate was not available Sunday.

Firefighters from Carpentersville, Crystal Lake and Huntley assisted at the scene.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District reminds everyone with a fireplace to have chimneys cleaned and serviced regularly.
