Palatine woman pleads guilty to reckless conduct
A 26-year-old Palatine woman received one year's supervision in exchange for pleading guilty this week to a misdemeanor charge of reckless conduct.
The charges stem from a November incident in which police say Katherine Kurpiel, a former Palatine Township High School District 211 employee, drove several Streamwood high school students while her blood-alcohol level was over the legal limit for bus drivers.
Kurpiel registered a BAC of .048, which exceeds the .040 limit for a bus driver, police said following Kurpiel's arrest. Police say she admitted drinking 10 beers the night before she drove the students in a district van.
A judge also ordered Kurpiel to pay a $300 fine and perform community service as part of her sentence.
