City launches new Twitter account

The City of West Chicago has announced the addition of social media to supplement their communication efforts. A new City Twitter account debuted this month.

Twitter is a fast and convenient way to stay on top of current news. According to Rosemary Mackey, West Chicago's marketing and communications coordinator, the new Twitter account, which may be accessed at twitter.com/westchicagoil, will serve as something of an online marquee for news headlines relating to city services, projects or events.

"Messages will flag a wide range of information from brush pick-up dates to the latest press release posted on the website. Every message will contain a link to the city's website for extended coverage," she said.

It is hoped that the addition of this social media tool will enhance existing forms of city communication which include the website, a bi-monthly newsletter, E-News in several categories of special interest, Coffee with the Mayor, city blogs, videos, a resident-written news column, and an LED message board contained in a monument sign at the corner of Main Street and Illinois Route 59 which is the east gateway to the community's downtown district.
