80 firefighters battled Sunday house fire near Elburn

No one was injured in a four-alarm house fire in Elburn Sunday night, fire officials said Monday.

The fire that broke out at 42W121 Keslinger Road was elevated to a fourth alarm because of a lack of water to the scene, said Assistant Fire Chief Tate Haley of the Elburn and Countryside Fire Protection District.

The said firefighters were called to the scene at about 6:10 p.m., and flames were visible on the third floor.

He said the home was located about three-quarters of a mile off the road, and water had to be pumped to the fire in order to get the fire under control.

He said 20 other fire departments and 80 firefighters were called to the scene to help battle the blaze.

“It was tough because of a lack of water at the scene,” Haley said. “Plus, because of the cold, we brought in extra guys to make sure everyone stayed warm and dry.”

He said no one was injured in the blaze and the fire was snuffed out at about 9:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Haley said a damage estimate was not available, but said the house was deemed uninhabitable.

The owner of the house could not be reached for comment. Blackberry Township assessment records list a 76-year-old house on the 16-acre property. Kane County property tax and property records indicate the house belongs to a trust for Jeffrey and Michelle Muellner.
