Here’s why we weren’t offered help

I was reading with interest the columns written by readers about how we send in help to countries who have disasters, but when we have a disaster, no one sends us any help.

If memory serves me correct, and I believe it does, when Katrina hit New Orleans, a number of countries offered to help us out by sending us supplies and even manpower and our government proudly refused their offer, stating they have everything under control.

I don’t know how your readers would react to such a bold refusal, but if I offered someone help and was refused in such a manner, there wouldn’t be a second offer.

The reason I remember this, is because I was appalled by the fact that we refused help in such a time of need. I hope this might offer an explanation as to why we may not get any offers of help.
