Ivy Hill runners support Special Olympics
The Ivy Hill Elementary Running Club had a great fall season that culminated with the fifth annual Fun Run on Friday, Sept. 21. The students raised $380 for Special Olympics Illinois.
Prior to the run, Dan Conley, area director for the nonprofit organization, led the students in the Special Olympics oath, “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”
Students chose between running one or two miles around the neighborhood. Conley said the money will help with events for Special Olympic athletes. Everyone enjoyed the refreshments after the race donated by Wheeling Auto Center, Mariano’s Fresh Market, Harvest Fresh, O-Nits owner Marc Palano and Target.
At the finish line, each runner received a medal from PTA and a Special Olympics O-Nit donated by O-Nits. The Fun Run was a huge success and the volunteers were a big part of that.
