Wheeling coach opening training center for high school athletes
A volunteer track coach at Wheeling High School is opening a sports training center for high school athletes whose after school practices just aren’t enough.
“These days athletes are looking for that extra training edge, and that’s what we’ll provide,” Neil Tews said Monday after the Wheeling village board unanimously approved his plan.
Tews, an Arlington Heights resident who coaches hurdles at Wheeling High, next month will open ARC Performance at 41 E. Hintz Road, less than a mile away from the school. It mainly will provide extra training for track and field and football athletes, he said.
The facility will offer personal training, one-on-one sport specific training, camps and more, Tews said. On average there will be between 12 to 18 athletes at ARC at a time.
Besides Tews, ARC Performance will employ four other coaches. It will be open from about 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.
ARC’s grand opening will take place May 7, Tews said.
