St. Emily cross country sends both teams to state
The St. Emily School Cross Country team from Mount Prospect competed in the IESA sectional meet Oct. 6 at Melas Park against 12 other teams from the area. Both the boys and girls teams qualified for the state meet in Bloomington. The girls team placed second and the boys team placed third.
The girls were lead by Loreta D’ugo (seventh grade), in fourth place. At the sectional meet, D’ugo lead the way for the women. She placed fourth overall. Aubrey Hasley (fifth grade) placed seventh. Rounding out the top five were Theresa Donohue (eighth grade), followed by Nicole Weiss (eighth grade) and Lindsey Kalble (seventh grade).
The other key runners on the sectional team were Mary Paczko (seventh grade), Kaityln Denton (eighth grade) and alternate Bridget Stephens (eighth grade). Many of these girls have been running together on this team since fifth grade.
The girls team also placed third at the recent conference meet at Busse Woods on Oct. 1. At the conference meet, Emma Dempsey placed fifth in the 1-mile open meet.
The boys team had a strong performance at the sectional meet lead by Paul Bergstrom (seventh grade) ninth overall, and Brendan Igoe (eighth grade) 10th overall. These two have been the team leaders throughout the year.
The remaining runners contributing to their state qualifying times were Kevin Igoe (sixth grade) and the Natidim brothers Patric (fifth grade) and Nathan (eighthgrade).
Other key runners on the team were Richard Rinka (seventh grade) and Scott Rogowski (fifth grade). The varsity boys team of Bergstrom, Igoe, Rinka and Natindim were undefeated during the conference season.
St. Emily is coached by Judy Paczko, Lori Magnoni and Lucy Bergstrom.
