Your news: AM Rotary Club installs new officers

Schaumburg AM Rotary Club members recently held their annual Installation & Awards Dinner at the Chicago Marriott Northwest to celebrate 2009/2010 accomplishments and induct new officers for 2010/2011.

First established in March 1990, Schaumburg AM Rotary marks a significant milestone anniversary this year by celebrating 20 years of community service. During that time, the club and its members have raised and donated more than $360,000 in support of various local, regional and international projects, programs and organizations.

Outgoing president Earl Bateman cited the fact that the club obtained two Rotary District 6440 Simplified Grants this past year that were used to make a substantial food contribution to the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry, and support Schaumburg's Alfred Campanelli YMCA Super Santa Program that provides gifts to area children and families, who cannot afford them during the holiday season. The club also supported earthquake relief to Haiti through donations to ShelterBox, an international disaster relief organization that provides emergency shelter in the form of a tent and other essential equipment needed for survival.

Bateman also inducted Dan Opels, who is employed by New York Life Insurance, as new club member and recognized three club members for exceptional service during the past year. Service Above Self Awards were presented to Jim McKenzie and Jeff Winkenwerder for their respective contributions in the areas of fundraising and vocational service.

Rotarian of the Year honor was awarded to Sharon Perry in recognition of her leadership and efforts devoted to reinventing one of the club's two significant fundraising events.

District 6440 Governor Elect Carlos Früm inducted Karen Maczka-Bishop as incoming president. Maczka-Bishop recently attended her first Rotary International Convention in Montreal and came away feeling inspired, excited and humbled at being surrounded by fellow Rotarians from all over the world, who make the mission of Rotary happen within their local clubs and communities. In her inaugural remarks Maczka-Bishop noted that the benefits of being a member of Schaumburg AM Rotary included "the camaraderie enjoyed by its members and the personal support that they offer to each other, in addition to the group's willingness to serve their community."

Schaumburg AM Rotary meets 7 a.m. every Wednesday morning at Poplar Creek Country Club in Hoffman Estates. For more information visit schaumburgamrotary.org.
